In the production of aged cheese, it is essential to control the ripening process and to add certain elements and additives that improve its quality, conservation and appearance. The plastic cheese coating meets these requirements.
Plastic cheese coating allows cheese manufacturers to optimize their production and maintain total control over product quality. Plastic coatings for aged cheeses are composed of polyvinyl acetate, also known as PVA, and can be adapted in a versatile way by additives to provide specific properties according to the producer’s needs. You can choose from a wide range of colors for painting the cheese, thus obtaining a glossy, satin or matte finish according to your preference. All plastic coatings are non-toxic, do not enter the interior of the cheese or affect its aroma or flavor, and comply with Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011 on plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food, as well as the German BfR Chapter XIV, Part B standard.
FIBOSA has extensive experience in chemical solutions for the food industry and develops high quality plastic cheese coatings that act during and after the ripening phase, controlling moisture loss and protecting the cheese against the growth of undesirable microorganisms such as molds and yeasts. In addition, they protect the cheese from physical damage during transport and allow a specific final appearance, such as color or texture, to be obtained.
The use of polyvinyl acetate (PVA) cheese coating has several advantages over other options. For example, in some markets, plastic ripening bags that do not allow transpiration are used instead of breathable coatings. The second method is much more effective in terms of flavor and aroma, as it allows the release of gases during ripening.
Plastic coatings also provide a dry base for the adhesion of other coatings applied at the end of maturation, such as colored kerosene waxes. These waxes do not adhere directly to the surface of the cheese, so an intermediate product such as our plastic coatings is necessary. Similarly, it can be used to adhere product labels to the surface.
FIBOSA offers more than 40 years of experience in high quality and profitable cheese painting lines and machines, providing our technical and technological team, one of our greatest assets, which works together with the customer to find specific solutions that fit the production process and the producer’s needs. In addition, the customer is accompanied at all times to provide the necessary information for an optimal application of the product.
